Titans place Saahdiq Charles on reserve/retired list
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Saahdiq Charles, who had received the bulk of the first-team reps at right guard throughout much of the Tennessee Titans offseason and training camp, has left the team and was placed on the reserve/retired list on Tuesday.
Charles was signed as a free agent from the Washington Commanders in the offseason, and had moved to the top of the Titans’ first unofficial depth chart released Monday ahead of Saturday’s preseason opener with the San Francisco 49ers. He made 10 starts for Washington last year before being placed on injured reserve with a calf injury.
Charles had talked earlier in the offseason about how excited he was to reunite with his former LSU college teammate Lloyd Cushenberry, whom the Titans signed in the offseason to play center as part of a rebuilt offensive line.
Charles had been excused from training camp on Saturday and Sunday for what Titans coach Brian Callahan termed “personal reasons.”
His abrupt retirement likely puts 2021 second-round draft pick Dillon Radunz back in the picture as a potential starter on the line. Radunz made 11 starts last season between guard and tackle, coming off a torn ACL that ended his 2022 season in early December of that year.
The Titans also have Daniel Brunskill, who was their primary starting right guard last season, available as well as LaChavious Simmons, Andrew Rupcich and undrafted rookies Cole Spencer and Brian Dooley available to play guard.
