Alexander Rossi Has Surgery for Minor Injuries, Intends To Return Friday

ECR driver Alexander Rossi underwent successful outpatient procedures Monday evening, May 18 to repair minor injuries to a finger on his left hand and his right ankle suffered in a crash during Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge practice earlier today.

2016 Indianapolis 500 winner Rossi is in good spirits and has no additional injuries, according to an ECR social post.

Rossi’s recovery will be under the care of INDYCAR Medical Director Dr. Julia Vaizer and the INDYCAR medical team. His progress will continue to be evaluated with the full intent of participating in Miller Lite Carb Day final practice on Friday, May 22 and the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 24 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The No. 20 Java House Chevrolet crew will prepare a backup car and return to the track for final practice, scheduled for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday. Rossi qualified second, his best career “500” start, during PPG Presents Armed Forces Qualifying on Sunday.

Rossi spun in Turn 2 on Monday and made heavy contact with the SAFER Barrier. His car received secondary contact when the trailing Pato O’Ward braked in his No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet to avoid the incident and spun into Rossi.
