Hill's $3 million option exercised by Yankees, who decline Loáisiga's $5 million option
NEW YORK (AP) — Left-hander Tim Hill's $3 million option was exercised Wednesday by the New York Yankees, who declined a $5 million option on right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga.
Hill, 35, was 4-4 with a 3.09 ERA in 70 relief appearances, striking out 37 in 67 innings. His 64.8% ground-ball rate was third among pitchers with 50 or more innings, trailing only Jose Soriano (65.3%) and Jhoan Duran (65.0%) and his 4.97 strikeouts per nine innings was 338th among 339 relievers.
Loáisiga, 31, had Tommy John surgery on April 12, 2024, and returned this May 16 but struggled with ineffectiveness. He had a 4.25 ERA in 30 relief appearances, the last on Aug. 1. He finished the season on the injured list because of back tightness.
Loáisiga became eligible for free agency.
