Shahada Wells scores 23, McNeese wins 76-65 over VCU

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Shahada Wells had 23 points in McNeese's 76-65 season-opening win against VCU on Monday night.

Wells also had four steals for the Cowboys. Christian Shumate added 18 points while shooting 7 of 13 from the field and 3 for 6 from the line, and he also had 13 rebounds. Damian Richards Jr. shot 6 for 9, including 5 for 6 from beyond the arc to finish with 17 points.

Max Shulga led the way for the Rams with 22 points and four assists. Zeb Jackson added 14 points, seven rebounds and eight assists for VCU. In addition, Alphonzo Billups III had nine points.
