Everett scores 20, No. 25 St. John's women top Georgetown
WASHINGTON (AP) — Jayla Everett scored 20 points and No. 25 St. John's dominated the second quarter to roll to a 68-48 win over Georgetown on Saturday, extending the best start in Red Storm history to 13-0.
Unique Drake made four of five 3-pointers and added 18 points for St. John's (4-0 Big East), which is now three-shy of its longest winning streak set in the 1983-84 season. Kadaja Bailey added 12 points and Jillian Archer had nine with 17 rebounds.
Kelsey Ransom scored 13 points for the Hoyas (8-6, 1-4).
The Red Storm, ranked in consecutive weeks for the first time since February of 2014, outscored the Hoyas 26-8 in the second quarter for a 40-17 halftime lead. St. John’s hit 11 of 16 shots, including three 3-pointers and outrebounded Georgetown, 10-4. Archer and Bailey both had seven points.
The Hoyas scored the first basket of the game but Everett scored the next three, including a pair of 3-pointers, and the Red Storm pulled away.
Ahead 14-9 after one quarter, a Danielle Patterson's 3 capped a 7-0 run for a 21-11 lead. Following two Georgetown baskets, St. John’s scored 14 straight, the first five from Archer.
St. John's, which has limited opponents to 53.8 points, hounded the Hoyas into 1 of 12 from 3-point range at 32% shooting overall (18 of 57). The Red Storm had 10 3s, four each from Drake and Everett.
St. John's heads to Seton Hall for a game on Wednesday while the Hoyas go to Villanova.
