Flawless effort in easy win Rodriguez defeated Patricio Freire via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 314 on Saturday in Miami.
Impact Without a victory in more than 26 months, Rodriguez turned back the clock in what was a vintage, dominant performance. He masterfully managed the distance between he and his much smaller opponent, leading to Yair winning nearly every striking exchange in overwhelming fashion. Rodriguez was also responsible for the biggest moment of the bout with a Round 3 knockdown. He fought a very smart game plan, which combined with his physical gifts, led to the easy decision win. Yair said post-fight that UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell promised him a title shot if he got through Pitbull. That seems like a bit of a reach, but Rodriguez also doesn't appear to be all that far away from challenging for 145-pound gold.
