Remains perfect in UFC Martinez defeated Marlon Vera via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.

Impact It was a mixed-bag performance from Martinez. As a -300 favorite he was projected to win quite easily, and for the most part, that's exactly what happened. Facing an opponent in Vera that is a notoriously slow starter, Martinez easily won Round 1, landing plenty of big power shots along the way. He became increasingly less effective as the fight progressed, primarily because his pace appeared to slow, although you wouldn't be able to tell that by his output. Vera was definitely the more effective fighter in the closing minutes of the fight and that's something Martinez will have to work on moving forward. If this bout was tied at a round a piece, he would have lost. The 27-year-old has won all three of his UFC fights since officially joining the company about 11 months ago.

Scheduled against Chito Martinez is scheduled to compete against Marlon Vera in a bantamweight fight at UFC Mexico on Feb. 28, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.

Impact Martinez, currently No. 10 in the UFC's bantamweight rankings, can climb up by defeating Vera, No. 8. The former's 2025, his first year with the UFC, proved promising with statement wins over Saimon Oliveira (TKO via punches) and Rob Font (unanimous decision) to go 2-0.

Impact Stepping in for Raul Rosas (undisclosed) on a couple weeks' notice, Martinez put forth a stellar performance in what was by far the biggest win of his career. He and Font went blow-for-blow in what was predictably a stand-up affair, but Martinez lapped his opponent in terms of activity. Font is known as a high-volume striker, yet it was David that attempted a whopping 210 total strikes compared to just 158 from Font. Martinez saved his best moments for Round 3, which was key because the fight was tied at 18 heading into the final frame. It's fair to wonder how Martinez will fare when grappling enters the equation, but he's clearly a talented striker.

A handful of months later, he found himself as a -800 favorite for his official company debut in his home country. He delivered. Facing a lower-level opponent without the ability to match his explosiveness, Martinez delivered a flurry of blows, most notably a right hook and a knee which eventually put Oliveira away. We'll have to see how Martinez looks against better competition, but his UFC run couldn't have started any better.
