Still searching for first UFC win Matthews lost to Yadier Del Valle via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:54 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Impact Matthews earned his UFC opportunity with a win on Dana White's Contender Series (in his second attempt) back in October 2023. He made his official company debut in March 2024 and has fought three times since, dropping all three via stoppage including the last two in Round 1. He was totally overwhelmed by the debuting Del Valle, giving up a takedown and submitting to the rear-naked choke without resistance. The UFC will surprise us once in a while and give a fighter another chance when we least expect it. Do not expect that to be the case with Matthews.

Draws Del Valle on May 17 Matthews will take on Yadier del Valle in a featherweight matchup at UFC Vegas 106 on May 17, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.

Impact After getting a UFC contract via Contender Series, Matthews has come up empty in both of his official UFC fights, both via KO/TKO. He now takes on a fellow Contender Series product in Del Valle, a 28-year-old Cuban prospect who is 8-0 as a professional. Matthews, who likely needs a win to keep his roster spot, will give up an inch in height to Del Valle but owns a two-inch reach advantage.
