Lamas vs. Sanchez set for Nov. 21 Monterrey card
Former featherweight title challenger Ricardo Lamas will fight former lightweight title challenger Diego Sanchez in Monterrey, Mexico on Nov. 21. The UFC officially announced the news Wednesday morning.
The Mexico card is headlined by Matt Brown vs. Kelvin Gastelum, at welterweight, will air on FOX Sports 1. Tickets go on sale Sep. 11.
Lamas, who took featherweight champ Jose Aldo the distance in 2014, has won two out of his last three. However, his last fight was a first-round TKO loss to Chad Mendes in April.
Sanchez is moving down to featherweight for this fight, and will become just the second UFC fighter (his TUF 1 middleweight co-finalist Kenny Florian being the other) to have competed in four different weight categories. Sanchez last fought and won in June of 2014, but that was the result of a horrid and controversial home-town decision in New Mexico over Ross Pearson.
Before that disputed win, Sanchez had lost three out of his previous four fights, at lightweight and welterweight. The TUF 1 champion is looking to kickstart his career at the lighter weight, and can prove himself a contender at 145 immediately if he manages to get past Lamas.
