Jon Jones: 'DC's overall game is more complete'

Jon Jones believes that light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will defeat Anthony Johnson at UFC 206.

At UFC 206, current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson are set to face off for the second time. Their first matchup ended in a third-round, rear naked choke submission by Cormier. Since then, Johnson has acquired a three-fight winning streak, with wins over Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader, and Glover Teixeira, respectively.

Johnson has won 12 of his last 13 fights, with the last three lasting just 127 seconds in total. In fact, 73 percent of Rumble’s wins have come by way of knockout, as he normally dominates his opponents early on with his devastating power. Cormier experienced that power at UFC 187, as he was literally punched across the Octagon in his first meeting with Johnson.

However, heading into their second matchup, the light heavyweight champion remains unfazed by his opponent’s knockout record, and believes that he is the more well-rounded fighter. Recently, while on The MMA Hour (h/t MMA Fighting), Cormier stated:

“I like that they build him into this Superman. I like people viewing him in that way, and then I get to go smashing on him and showing that it don’t [sic] matter what you build these people into. When they get into the Octagon and fight, the guy who is more skilled and more well-rounded is going to beat him.”

Although the current interim light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, would like to face Johnson, he also believes that Cormier will see victory at UFC 206. In a recent tweet, he stated, “If I had to bet I would go with DC, his overall game is more complete.”

Jones will most likely face the winner of Cormier vs Johnson, pending his current legal issues. However, at the end of the day, the 29-year-old is ultimately focused on clearing out the light heavyweight division and reclaiming his title in the process.
