Heavyweights tip scales for UFC 146

It’s debatable where the all-heavyweight main card ranks in terms of overall talent in UFC pay-per-view history.

There’s no dispute, however, where UFC 146 stands in one category: heft. The 10 fighters on the main card — headlined by the heavyweight title bout between champ Junior dos Santos and Frank Mir — weighed in at a total of 2,485 pounds at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the eve of the event Friday.

“It's going to be knockout (in the) second round,” Dos Santos said after he stepped off the scale at 240 pounds.

Mir, who broke the arm of Dos Santos' mentor, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, in a submission win last year, weighed in at 261 pounds.

The lightest of the bunch was Dave Herman (233 pounds), who takes on Roy Nelson (254 pounds). As expected, the heaviest was Antonio Silva, who weighed in at 264, one pound under the cutoff for the division. He faces Cain Velasquez (240), a favorite of the Hispanic community who elicited the loudest cheer as he stepped onto the stage among the thousands who attended the weigh-in.

The other heavyweight matches include: Shane del Rosario (246) vs. Stipe Miocic (245) and Stefan Struve (255) vs. Lavar Johnson (248).
