For UFC contender Glover Teixeira, knocking opponents out is all business
After losing by KO to Glover Teixeira in the main event of Saturday's UFC on FOX card, former champion Rashad Evans was in an understandably dark place. He told members of the media in the press conference that he was embarrassed.
When Teixeira got into the room, however, he made sure to let Evans and everyone in attendance and watching know that there is no shame in losing. Losing happens to everyone.
"By the way, Rashad, there is nothing to feel embarrassed about," he said.
"You're an incredible warrior. You were the champion for a reason. Keep your head up. I know you'll come back from this."
It may come as a surprise to fans given how Teixeira has made a career out of violently knocking opponents senseless, but the light heavyweight contender insists that his cage wars are never personal. Teixeira's yeoman-like attitude means he just wants to work, make a living and become the best. His motivation isn't about hurting others.
"I knew I had a tough guy in front of me. When I got called to fight Rashad, I was happy. I was happy because I had a job," he explained.
"I'm a fighter. I'm a worker. I want to fight. It's all about business. It's all about keeping myself busy and eventually fight for the title."
Since he doesn't fight with grudges, Teixeira doesn't care who he ends up fighting, as long as it is eventually for UFC gold, again. The 36-year-old is on a three-fight winning streak, against some the best contenders in his division.
He's also finished all of them. With that type of fight-stopping rate, Glover has the confidence to fight anyone.
As he nears 40 years of age, he simply wants to cap his great career with a world title. "I don't care who, I don't care where," he says.
"I just want to fight."
