Dortmund stay perfect with comfy victory over Hertha Berlin
Borussia Dortmund moved back to the top of the Bundesliga on Sunday, edging ahead of Bayern Munich on goal difference after beating Hertha Berlin 3-1.
Mats Hummels headed the hosts in front in the first half before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added a second early in the second half.
Salomon Kalou pulled one back for Hertha, but their former forward Adrian Ramos sealed Dortmund's win and place at the top of the Bundesliga in stoppage time.
With two wins, eight goals scored and none conceded, Dortmund had made a flying start to the season, and after a 7-2 victory over Odd in the Europa League on Thursday, they were keen to keep their positive momentum going.
That was interrupted temporarily by a drinks' break midway through the first half, given the high temperatures in Westphalia, and shortly after, an energized Dortmund took the lead.
Shinji Kagawa showed some of his new-found confidence to burst into the area and deliver a cross for Hummels to head the hosts in front.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan tested Thomas Kraft with a powerful shot from distance, but Dortmund only held a single-goal advantage at the interval.
A second arrived early in the second 45 minutes with Matthias Ginter revelling in the freedom his new wide role is giving him to get forward and set up Aubameyang, who supplied an easy finish from close range.
Dortmund failed to add to their lead and it nearly cost them dearly as Kalou brought the Old Lady back into the game, turning the ball in from a borderline offside position after Roman Burki only parried Vladimir Darida's effort.
It was the first goal Burki has conceded in the Bundesliga this season, but fortunately for him it did not have any consequences.
Although Dortmund continued to waste chances, they managed to grab a third in stoppage time with former Berlin forward Ramos putting the finishing touch to a team move to take Thomas Tuchel's men ahead of Bayern at the top of the standings.
