Wolves sign Greg Smith to second 10-day contract

The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed center Greg Smith to a second 10-day contract, the team announced Saturday.

Smith has averaged 2.8 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game over six contests with Minnesota. He was called up from the Raptors 905 of the D-League for a 10-day contract on March 2 to suppliment Minnesota's frontcourt depth.

Kevin Garnett, Nikola Pekovic and Nemanja Bjelica were all injured when the Timberwolves originally signed Smith. Considerable playing time had fallen to young forwards Karl-Anthony Towns and Gorgui Dieng, but they appeared worn out after a back-to-back earlier this month.

The 6-foot-10 Smith played parts of three seasons with the Houston Rockets and played 42 games for the Dallas Mavericks last year. He has averaged 12.4 points in 16 games for Raptors 905.
