Wolves F Dante Cunningham arrested on suspicion of domestic assault

MINNEAPOLIS -- Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham was arrested for domestic assault early Thursday morning and is being held in Hennepin County Jail without bail.

Medina police arrested Cunningham, and he was brought to jail at 6:14 a.m. He has not been charged but won't make the team's trip to Miami on Thursday.

The Timberwolves, who play the Heat on Friday and the Magic on Saturday, released a statement regarding the alleged incident.

"We are aware of the matter involving Dante Cunningham and are in the process of gathering more information," the statement read. "The Minnesota Timberwolves organization takes the matter very seriously and does not condone the type of behavior that is associated with this situation. However, we need to let the legal process run its course, and will have further comment at the appropriate time."

Primarily Kevin Love's backup at power forward this season, Cunningham has appeared in all 74 of Minnesota's games and averages six points and four rebounds per contest.

It's not Cunningham's first brush with the law. While a member of the Bobcats in 2011, he was arrested in Radnor Township, Pa., when police reportedly found marijuana, a pipe and a BB gun inside the former Villanova player's car. A Philadelphia judge later dismissed the charges and ordered Cunningham to pay a $225 fine for motor vehicle violations.

Cunningham is due to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. He's owed $2.18 million this year after the Timberwolves picked up the option on his contract for 2013-14.
