Virtual NASCAR has never looked so good
It's been a very, very long time since NASCAR fans have been able to enjoy a stellar virtual racing experience on video game consoles, but on Wednesday Microsoft revealed that NASCAR is coming to the fantastic Xbox One racing game Forza Motorsport 6, and it looks stunning.
24 fully licensed Sprint Cup Series cars have been added to the game (along with Homestead-Miami Speedway) in the new NASCAR expansion, which is now on sale for $19.99. Unfortunately the game still doesn't have many actual NASCAR circuits even with the addition of Homestead (Daytona, Indianapolis, Sonoma and Watkins Glen are also in the game), but you can take Sprint Cup cars around a number of famous Formula 1 circuits like Spa, Silverstone and Monza and race in crossover events against supercars and IndyCars.
A few other racing simulators have dabbled in delivering NASCAR content, from Gran Turismo 5 to Project CARS, but aside from iRacing (which has a prohibitively high barrier of entry), no one has really nailed a NASCAR video game since Papyrus more than a decade ago. This isn't the full-on NASCAR experience fans deserve, but at least it looks pretty.
