Vikings snap counts: 'Tay Train' leaves the station

Published Oct. 24, 2017 12:30 p.m. ET

That’s why the Minnesota Vikings signed running back Latavius Murray to a three-year, $15 million contract.

Hampered by offseason ankle surgery, then the emergence of rookie Dalvin Cook, Murray had yet to make much of an impact for the Vikings heading into Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

He more than doubled his yardage totals for the season, rushing for 113 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries after rushing for just 97 yards combined in six games to start the season.

Murray out-gained backfield mate Jerick McKinnon, who had 14 carries for 47 yards, but was still out-snapped.

McKinnon appeared on 53 percent of the offensive snaps (35 total), while Murray was on the field for 47 percent (31 total).

Murray rushed for 100 yards for the first time since Week 14 of last season, while turning in one of the most efficient performances of his four-year career.

He averaged 6.28 yards per carry, the best average of his career when given at least 15 carries.

Other notes from Sunday’s snap counts:

-- Laquon Treadwell’s role continues to grow with Stefon Diggs missing. He played on a season-high 83 percent of the offensive snaps.

-- Adam Thielen was used heavily again. He appeared on 98 percent of the offensive snaps, and was targeted 12 times, tied for third in the league last week.

--  Danny Isidora and Rashod Hill saw their first action of the season following injuries to left guard Jeremiah Sirles and left tackle Riley Reiff.

-- A season-high six players – Harrison Smith, Andrew Sendejo, Anthony Barr, Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes and Eric Kendricks – played on 100 percent of the defensive snaps.
