Cornerback Terence Newman will suit up for the Minnesota Vikings at age 40.

Minnesota announced it re-signed the 15-year NFL veteran on Monday, ensuring Newman would play his fourth season in Minneapolis -- and 16th overall.

In his three seasons with the Vikings, Newman has compiled 110 tackles, 25 passes defensed and five interceptions. Newman, who will turn 40 in September, has only missed one game during his stint with Minnesota.

He will reunite once again with head coach Mike Zimmer. Newman will now be coached by Zimmer in 10 of his 16 professional seasons, going back to his rookie year in Dallas where Zimmer served as the defensive coordinator. The two were together in Dallas from 2003-06, then in Cincinnati from 2012-13 and now in Minnesota ever since he signed as a free agent in 2015.

Newman will be faced with the task of grooming Mackensie Alexander and 2018 first-round pick Mike Hughes at the cornerback position.

He will be the oldest active defensive player in the NFL and ranks second among all active players with 42 career interceptions.
