UFC featured on HBO's popular comedy series 'Silicon Valley'
It might be the biggest UFC event to stream online in history. In coordination with Hooli CEO Gavin Belson, the world's biggest mixed martial arts promotion will team with the tech giant to present UFC: Molina vs. Bulgakov 2 on their new platform called 'Nucleus' ahead of the full launch of the program at CES in January.
That certainly sounds like a real enough pitch, right?
Well the UFC isn't actually teaming up with any tech giant and there aren't any fighters on the roster called Molina or Bulgakov, which means they certainly haven't fought once so that makes it awfully hard for a rematch.
No, instead the UFC did work with the popular HBO series "Silicon Valley" on an appearance during the show on Sunday night for the episode titled "Server Space."
The series originated with "Office Space" and "Beavis and Butthead" creator Mike Judge and it focuses on a new startup in California's Silicon Valley as five friends try to launch a new compression engine called Pied Piper while going up against a powerful tech giant conglomerate called Hooli and their megalomaniacal leader, Gavin Belson.
UFC officials were definitely consulted before the name was used on the show Sunday night along with the images of "Molina" and "Bulgakov," who look suspiciously like Ilir Latifi and Chris Dempsey.
Not to spoil anything but Latifi and Dempsey actually did fight in Ireland last year -- Latifi won by first-round knockout. Hopefully "Bulkagov" can get some revenge in the rematch on the bout streaming exclusively on Nucleus by Hooli. Gavin Belson's hype for this fight should get everyone in a feeding frenzy to see what happens next.
"I can think of no more exciting a way to give a little taste of Nucleus to the entire world than by putting video latency in a rear naked choke hold."
The UFC will be featured on "Silicon Valley" this weekend as well in an episode titled "Homicide," as Hooli gets ready to live stream the fights while their competitors from Pied Piper try to find a streaming partner of their own to go up against the big Molina vs. Bulkagov rematch.
You'll get ultimate fighting at the ultimate resolution. What could be better than that?
