Thunder intrigued by Jerrett's shooting, 'savvy'
Former Arizona player Grant Jerrett, who surprisingly declared for the NBA after a lackluster freshman year, met with the media on Saturday after being selected in the second round, at No. 40 overall, by the Portland Trail Blazers and then being shipped to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Oklahoma City officials said they had been looking at Jerrett, a 6-foot-10 forward who was projected to go relatively late in the draft, since the beginning of last season.
"We see him as a player who definitely can stretch the floor at that position," Thunder general manager Sam Presti told reporters. "He shoots the ball incredibly easy, and at a young age. The other thing about him that we've really been intrigued with is he's got a real sense of awareness on the floor, a great savvy offensively for a young player."
It's expected that Jerrett will prepare to participate on OKC's summer league team in Orlando later this month.
"You don't expect to play with these guys when you're watching them on TV," Jerrett said over the weekend. "You're just watching and learning what they do. It would be an honor to play with these guys."
