Texans' Foster not in favor of Thursday football

Thursday night at NRG Stadium, the Houston Texans will play host to the Indianapolis Colts. While fans might look forward to seeing a game just three days removed from Sunday's set of NFL games, count Arian Foster as one who isn't on board with the extra night of football.

Foster claims Thursday night games are 'annoying for players' and are hypocritical of the NFL, which is actively trying to promote safety.

"I don't know a player that likes it," Foster said Monday. "I really don't know a fan that likes it, either. I think it's just the league's way of trying to generate more revenue."

While the jury is still out whether or not fans like pro football on Thursday nights, a three-day turnaround for players who typically have a week in-between games has to be taxing.

Foster claims going back out to play a full game on three-days rest even puts players at an unnecessary risk for injury without enough recovery days.

"They [the NFL] emphasize concussions when they start getting hit with lawsuits and they care about the players' safety but Thursday Night Football is putting every player on the football field in danger," Foster said.

Foster may have a point about fans disliking the on-field product on Thursdays. This season, the first year Thursday Night Football has been broadcast on network television on CBS, all five previous games have been blowouts - with teams winning by an average of 28.8 points. Without the typical timeline to prep for game day, teams are often less prepared, resulting in the lopsided scoreboard.

When asked if the NFL Players Association should work with the NFL to address the problems players may have with Thursday night games, Foster believes it would do no good due to the two parties being 'kind of the same thing' in his eyes.

Despite Foster not being in favor of Thursday Night Football, the Texans upcoming game against the Colts does have huge implications with the winner moving into sole possession of first place in the AFC South as both current sit with a 3-2 record.
