TCU head coach Gary Patterson has said for the last month that there are no guarantees that Casey Pachall will be the No. 1 quarterback when the season starts.
Patterson isn't changing his tune with less than two weeks to go before the Horned Frogs open the season Aug. 31 against LSU at AT&T Stadium.
"We won't tell LSU who that guy is going to be until we play," Patterson told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "You won't know until he runs out on the field in the first huddle on game day."
Pachall, who is back with the team after missing the final eight games following an arrest and a stint in rehab for alcohol, was tabbed the first team all-Big 12 quarterback by the media in the preseason voting.
But sophomore Trevone Boykin, who replaced Pachall last season, has also impressed Patterson.
Patterson said at the school's media day that both could play this season, but he said it wouldn't be a 50-50 split. Patterson said if all things were equal, he would go with the veteran Pachall.
Pachall is a more of a pro-style quarterback and Boykin could offer a change of pace against LSU. The week before Pachall left the team in 2012, the Frogs contemplated moving Boykin to running back.
