Spurs' LaMarcus Aldridge won't play for US Olympic team

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- San Antonio forward LaMarcus Aldridge has pulled out of consideration for the U.S. Olympic basketball team after a finger injury late in the season.

The Spurs confirmed Aldridge's decision Monday, with general manager RC Buford saying in a statement that they "always support a player's decision when it comes to participation with his national team."

Aldridge wasn't considered a likely choice for the 12-man roster, given that he had never played for the Americans and withdrawn from consideration on multiple occasions previously. But he was given another chance when he was chosen for the roster pool of 31 finalists.

His decision, first reported by ESPN.com, comes on the day Stephen Curry also withdrew after his recent knee and ankle injuries.
