Sano double winner of Twins Diamond Awards
The impressive half of a season Miguel Sano put together for the Minnesota Twins has garnered him recognition from the local media.
It was announced Tuesday that Sano is the winner of a couple of Diamond Awards, as voted on by the Twins Cities Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Sano was named winner of the Calvin R. Griffith Award (Most Valuable Twins) and the Bill Boni Award (Most Outstanding Rookie) after hitting .269 with 18 home runs and 52 RBI in just 80 games this past season. Sano is the first Twins player to receive both awards in the same season.
Kyle Gibson, who had a 3.84 ERA with a career-high 145 strikeouts, was tabbed Joseph W. Haynes (Pitcher of the Year) winner.
