Officially released by Arizona The Diamondbacks released Kepler on Tuesday.

Impact After having previously been removed from the 40-man roster, Kepler is now a free agent after clearing waivers and being cut loose by Arizona. The veteran outfielder has managed just a .565 OPS in 145 plate appearances and, with the minor-league season winding down, could wait until the winter to look for a new landing spot.

DFA'd by Arizona The Diamondbacks designated Kepler for assignment Sunday.

Impact The veteran outfielder signed with the Diamondbacks in June but has now been dumped from the 26-man and 40-man rosters after posting a 154/.214/.173 slash line in 16 games since the start of September. Kepler, who served an 80-game PED suspension to begin the season, has a .565 OPS with two homers in 145 plate appearances this year.

Resting Friday Kepler isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against San Francisco.

Impact Kepler will move to the bench Friday after going just 7-for-42 (.167) at the plate through his first 13 games in August. Lars Nootbaar will start in left field as a result, moving Gabriel Moreno to the DH spot and allowing James McCann to start at catcher.

AUGUST 28 • ROTOWIRE

Back on bench with lefty starting Kepler is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Impact After starting in the first two games of the series and going 1-for-7 at the plate between those contests, the left-handed-hitting Kepler will retreat to the bench for the finale while Chicago sends a lefty (Matthew Boyd) to the bump. Arizona will roll out a starting outfield of Ryan Waldschmidt, Jordan Lawlar and Corbin Carroll from left to right.

Moving to bench Saturday Kepler isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds.

Impact Kepler's playing time has begun to dwindle recently, as he's started just four of Arizona's last 12 games, and that trend may continue now that Jordan Lawlar has returned from the injured list. Both players will begin Saturday's contest on the bench while Lars Nootbaar, Ryan Waldschmidt and Corbin Carroll form the D-backs' outfield trio.

AUGUST 22 • ROTOWIRE

Sitting against lefty again Kepler is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Impact The Diamondbacks will keep the left-handed-hitting Kepler on the bench for a third straight game while the Red Sox have sent left-handed starters to the bump for all three contests of the series. Kepler could also be in danger of losing out on playing time against righties, as the recent return of Jordan Lawlar from the 10-day injured list leaves one fewer spot in the lineup available.

AUGUST 19 • ROTOWIRE

Taking seat Saturday Kepler isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

Impact Kepler will take a day to regroup Saturday after going just 1-for-14 with three walks and five strikeouts in five games since the beginning of August. Lars Nootbaar will start in left field while Kepler rests, moving Gabriel Moreno into the DH spot and giving James McCann a start behind the plate.

Knocks in two Kepler went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Monday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.

Impact Kepler broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a two-run double. He had a chance for more RBI in 10th but lined out with the bases loaded. After a period of adjusment to MLB pitching upon his return from an 80-game suspension -- a .190 average and 26.1 strikeout percentage over his first 14 games -- Kepler's found his swing. The outfielder is 8-for-26 (.308) with three doubles, one home run, six RBI and just two strikeouts (6.9 K%) over the subsequent eight contests.

Drives in two runs Monday Kepler went 3-for-5 with a two-run double during Arizona's 3-2 extra-inning loss to Pittsburgh on Monday.

Kepler is slashing .235/.280/.397 with two home runs and 14 RBI across 75 plate appearances this season.

Lifts homer in win Kepler went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and two walks in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Athletics.

Impact This was Kepler's second multi-hit effort in a row and his fourth this season since he debuted June 26 following an 80-game suspension. The outfielder is batting .240 with a .706 OPS, two homers, 12 RBI, five runs scored and three doubles over 16 contests. Kepler has seen the bulk of the work in left field since Lourdes Gurriel (thigh) went on the injured list, though Ryan Waldschmidt is also in the mix when he's not in center field.
