Report: Bears fan in critical condition after tailgate altercation

Published Oct. 21, 2014 12:34 p.m. ET

A Chicago Bears fan is in critical condition after an argument at a pregame tailgate turned physical.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that a 57-year-old man was beaten in the McCormick Place parking lot on Sunday, which is one of the many places where fans can park and gather outside of Soldier Field — site of Sunday's Bears home game vs. the Miami Dolphins. The man was discovered "incapacitated" near his SUV with severe injuries. A police report stated that he suffered blunt force trauma to the head and face.

The victim was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and appeared to be "heavily intoxicated."
