Regan Smith showed up as scheduled at Thursday's NASCAR Media Day at Daytona International Speedway, but understandably, his mind may have been elsewhere.

Smith, who finished second to his JR Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott in the 2014 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship, is anxiously awaiting the birth of his first child, which could come at any time, maybe even later today.

Smith's wife, Megan, is back home in North Carolina waiting for the couple's baby boy to arrive.

Asked about the timing, Regan Smith said, "Not yet, but maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe three weeks from now. We don't really know. It's kind of touch and go right now."

Smith said he's ready when she is.

"We've got all the plans set up as to what's going to take place and how it's going to take place," said Smith.

The driver already has been through one scary rite of passage for expectant fathers: Birthing class.

"It's been a learning experience," he said. "Terrifying. Best word I can give for it. Terrifying. ... I walked out of there, and I'm not going to lie, I got a beer almost immediately."
