Rangers leaning towards DL for Beltre
Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre did some work on the field Saturday and also took batting practice.
That might not be enough to keep him from going on the disabled list with a strained left quadriceps though.
The Rangers plan to wait through the weekend to see how Beltre feels but a DL move seems likely.
"The last thing we want is for it to grab on him again then he's done for two or three months instead of two or three weeks," Texas general manager Jon Daniels said. "We're probably erring on the side of being cautious and if we put him on the DL I'll let Wash (Ron Washington) tell him. I don't want to be in the room with an angry Adrian. We're probably leaning that way right now but we haven't made that call yet."
Beltre hurt his quad in Tuesday's game against Boston. He didn't play Wednesday or Friday and a roster move would likely come Monday. Beltre had dealt with hamstring injuries in the past and knows how to manage his body with them. But a quad injury is new for Beltre and he's not sure what to expect.
"It's better," Beltre said after BP. "It's not a tweak. It's a tear. The MRI showed a Grade 1 strain. So the thing is I'm not familiar with this quad stuff. I'm trying to see if it's going to be a couple of days. I'm trying to avoid a DL, but at the same time, I don't want to do something to make it worse."
He did just that in 2011 when he tried to come back too soon from a hamstring strain. He re-injured it during running drills and missed an additional three weeks.
