The Associated Press is releasing brief biographies on potential high-first-round draft picks in the NBA this year.
Here's their take on Otto Porter, Jr. from Georgetown;
Although he didn't make much noise during his freshman season at Georgetown, Porter broke out in a big way during his second year on campus. This emerging superstar averaged team highs of 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds en route to being named Big East player of the year and earning first team AP All-America honors. Considered by some to be the best all-around player in this year's class, Porter has an impressive shooting touch for someone his size. He shot 48.0 percent from the field in 2012-13, including 42.2 percent (43 for 102) from 3-point range. While he isn't particularly flashy, Porter has a tremendous understanding for the game and shouldn't have a hard time adjusting to the next level. Expected to be one of the first players off the board come draft day, Porter has a chance to contribute immediately if he lands in the right situation. Besides a relentless drive, Porter's ability to clamp down on defense truly separates him from the pack. He recorded 57 steals last season - the most in the Big East among forwards. Porter also proved very unselfish with the Hoyas and showed a tremendous knack for finding open teammates. Porter moves well without the ball and isn't one to shy away from contact. He doesn't come with much risk, but like most young players, Porter has yet to fill out and could afford to pack on some weight. Scouts love what Porter brings to the table, and he appears headed for a prosperous career in the NBA.
