Pitcher Evan Marshall hospitalized in El Paso after line drive to head
Diamondbacks minor-league pitcher Evan Marshall remains hospitalized in El Paso, Texas, after being hit in the head with a line drive while pitching for the Reno Aces on Tuesday night.
Marshall was pitching in the sixth inning when struck by a line drive off the bat of El Paso's Jason Hagerty. According to the El Paso Times, he was able to walk off the field with the help of his teammates. The Diamondbacks sent members of their player development and medical staff to El Paso to visit with Marshall, and team president and CEO Derrick Hall was also planning to visit.
Marshall was one of the D-backs top relievers last season after being called up from the minors, posting a 2.74 ERA in 57 games but struggled at the start of this season and was sent down to Reno, where he has a 6.40 ERA in 31 games.
"It's scary to be a player and see something like that happen," pitcher Allen Webster told mlb.com. "All you can do is hope for the best and put him in your prayers and hope he gets better soon. It was just hit so hard nobody could have reacted that fast."
