Peyton Manning gives perfect locker room victory speech after wild win

Published Sep. 18, 2015 2:07 p.m. ET

All week Peyton Manning faced scrutiny after a wobbly 24-for-40, 175-yard passing performance in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens despite a 19-13 Broncos victory. The win came courtesy the defense, which scored the team's only touchdown on a 51-yard pick-six by Aqib Talib.

And then came the stunning 31-24 come-from-behind win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night. At the end of another shaky outing by Manning with some off-target throws and others lacking juice, the 39-year-old led a 10-play, 80-yard touchdown drive consisting of five completions and six incompletions that ended with a 19-yard TD pass to Emmanuel Sanders. The Broncos then scored the winning touchdown when Bradley Roby returned a Jamaal Charles fumble 21 yards with 27 seconds left.

It wasn't always pretty but a win is a win.

''I've been involved in a couple of pretty crazy games,'' Manning said, ''but nothing quite like this.''

Head coach Gary Kubiak referenced Manning's critics in the locker room before giving one game ball to linebacker Brandon Marshall, who stripped Charles in the closing minute, and another to Manning.

Manning's very brief speech perfectly captured the moment (and reveals that he does, in fact, use expletives). Pretty cool.
