Packers' Hawk has sick experience with Blue Angels

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- A.J. Hawk has been trying for years to join the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels for a flight. When the Green Bay Packers linebacker finally got up in the air with them, it might have been a bit more exhilarating than Hawk anticipated.

"Oh, I was terrible," Hawk said. "I puked two-plus times."

Hawk sprinted out of a Packers offseason training activities practice to join the Blue Angels, who were in La Crosse, Wis., for an air show. Fortunately for the pilot, Hawk followed correct procedure when it came to his queasy stomach.

"I didn't puke on him," Hawk said. "I got it in the bags. I was apologizing to him the whole time because I got sick like minute 12 or 13 and we were up there 50 minutes. I was just trying to not die up there.

"I'm a baby anyway. I get car sick, so I knew I was going to be sick up there."

None of that deterred Hawk from wanting to have the experience, though.

"I told them going in, I expect to puke and pass out; both of them," he said. "I flickered between in and out of consciousness."

Hawk prepared for the ride by watching "Top Gun" until 3 in the morning the night before.

"I threw out multiple 'Top Gun' lines," Hawk added.

Hawk jokingly said he "probably lost 20 pounds of sweat." And though it might seem as if all of that meant Hawk didn't enjoy himself, think again.

"I'd do it today," he said. "I'd go back in a heartbeat. I might even get more sick. It was awesome."
