Omar Infante might avoid disabled list
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals have reported that overnight tests on second baseman Omar Infante indicate he did not suffer a concussive head injury when struck in the jaw by a pitch from Tampa Bay reliever Heath Bell.
Infante was taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center for observation after receiving six stitches by the Royals' medical team Monday night to close a wound on the lower left side of his face.
Infante was diagnosed with a sprain of his right jaw caused by the impact of the pitch to the left side of his face.
Infante will be evaluated over the next 48 hours, but the Royals' medical staff indicated it does not appear he will miss a significant amount of time.
There is no word yet whether the Royals will still make a roster move.
