Michigan State's rise as a team is paying off in individual honors, too.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins was selected Big Ten offensive player of the week while defensive end Tyler Hoover is the co-defensive player of the week.

Cousins passed for 331 yards and three touchdowns to rally the Spartans to a 35-27 victory at Northwestern.

Hoover, who shared the conference honor with Wisconsin's J.J. Watt, made nine tackles, including two sacks, and forced a fumble at MSU's 1-yard line.

Michigan State (8-0. 4-0 Big Ten) moved to No. 5 in the BCS standings entering Saturday's game at Iowa.
