Magic's Elfrid Payton named to NBA's All-Rookie first team

Orlando Magic guard Elfrid Payton was named Monday to the NBA's all-rookie first team, making him their second player to be honored in as many years.
Payton played in all 82 games for the Magic last season and averaged 8.9 points, 6.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 30.4 minutes. In March, he became the first player in franchise history to post a triple-double in consecutive games. He led all rookies in assists, and his 142 steals were seventh among all players in the league.
Payton made 63 starts, including 52 where he was paired with Victor Oladipo, a first-team selection the previous year.
Andrew Wiggins of the Minnesota Timberwolves was the only unanimous first-team selection by the 130 voters. Payton, who received 121 first-team votes, was also joined by Nikola Mirotic of the Chicago Bulls, Nerlens Noel of the Philadelphia 76ers and Jordan Clarkson of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Magic forward Aaron Gordon, who missed close to half of the season because of a fractured bone in his left foot, was not among the five players named to the second team.
