Kiel returns to lead Cincinnati over UConn


CINCINNATI (AP) -- Gunner Kiel made his first start in a month, threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third as Cincinnati won its first conference game, beating Connecticut 37-13.
Kiel led the Bearcats (4-3, 1-2 American) over UConn (3-5, 1-3), which came in with the second-best scoring defense in the conference at 20 points per game.
Kiel suffered a concussion against Memphis on Sept. 24. Freshman Hayden Moore led the offense against Miami and Brigham Young.
Kiel threw his two touchdown passes in the first quarter and his 1-yard run helped give the Bearcats a 24-10 halftime lead. He was 26 of 35 for 327 yards with touchdown throws to Johnny Holton and D.J. Dowdy, plus one interception. Hosey Williams rushed for 140 yards and a score on 13 carries and Mike Boone 117 yards on 13 attempts.
