Heat bench burns Suns in first summer league loss

The Miami Heat got a huge lift from their bench to defeat the Phoenix Suns 80-71 at the Las Vegas Summer League on Tuesday at Thomas and Mack Center.
Miami had just one starter, Briante Weber, score in double figures, as the reserves outscored the starters 48-32. Michael Carrera scored a team-high 16 points. Weber finished with 11 points, six assists and five steals.
The second and third quarters proved the difference as the Heat (2-1) outscored the Suns 47-30 in that 20-minute stretch.
Alan Williams led Phoenix (2-1) with 18 points and 10 rebounds but had 10 fouls and six turnovers. Tyler Ulis had 16 points, seven assists and five steals and Marquese Chriss had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Devin Booker, who led the Suns in scoring in each of their previous two wins, did not play as he readies to join the USA Select Team later this month.
Both teams' next opponents in the league's tournament are to be determined.
