Greenway has broken hand, Loadholt and Floyd also miss practice
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings returned to the practice field on Wednesday after ownership and management dealt with the fallout regarding star running back Adrian Peterson.
Linebacker Chad Greenway, right tackle Phil Loadholt and defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd weren't on the field because of injuries, though.
Coach Mike Zimmer said Greenway has a broken hand and his status for Sunday's game at New Orleans in unknown. Zimmer said the team is anticipating Greenway, who played through a broken right wrist last season, will be able to play Sunday.
"We don't know exactly to what extent it's going to affect him," Zimmer said. "His wrist is fine."
Greenway was at practice on Wednesday and had a plastic cast-like covering over his left hand.
"I play football for a living," Greenway said. "I'm not really sure what happened. It just started to really bother me, swelling up. . . . Little bit different situation (than last year), but we'll deal with it."
Asked if he would play on Sunday, Greenway offered: "We'll see."
Greenway was also listed with a rib injury on the team's injury report Wednesday.
Zimmer sounded more optimistic about Loadholt, who was held out with a "little" ankle injury. Loadholt also dealt with an ankle injury in the preseason. Floyd has dealt with a shoulder injury he sustained in Week 1 at St. Louis, but after sitting out the early part of last week, the second-year defensive tackle still played in last week's game.
"Sharrif, he will be fine," Zimmer said.
Tight end Kyle Rudolph was added to the injury report with an abdominal injury. He was limited in Wednesday's practice. Cornerback Xavier Rhodes, who played last week with the injury, was still limited with a groin injury.
"He's fine. He's good to go," Zimmer said of Rhodes
Rookie linebacker Brandon Watts returned to practice for the first time in the regular season as he deals with a knee injury. He was limited on Wednesday. Receiver Rodney Smith (hamstring) was limited, while linebacker Michael Mauti (foot) was a full participant in practice.
New Orleans was without several starters.
Center Jonathan Goodwin (elbow), linebacker David Hawthorne (ankle), running back Mark Ingram (hand) and fullback Erik Lorig (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday. Ingram is expected to miss about a month with a broken hand. Starting linebacker Curtis Lofton (shoulder) was limited.
