Throughout the 2014 NFL season, FOX Sports fantasy contributor Adam Meyer will square off against DraftKings pro Peter Jennings in one-week fantasy football contests on DraftKings.com

I can pin-point my loss from Week 4 on one specific decision: Vernon Davis over Matt Asiata. I was debating back-and-forth until the 4pm (EST) kickoff. If Davis was playing, I was going with him in the flex spot of my DraftKings lineup. Jim Harbaugh had Davis as a starter, so I did as well.

Wrong move.

Davis re-injured his back and was out for a large portion of the game. Asiata went on to score three touchdowns.

I had the potential to win by 20, again. Instead I lost by six.

Peter Jennings and I had three similar players on the roster: Antonio Brown (35.78 points), Jeremy Kerley (1.3 points), and Donald Brown (9.4 points).

I allocated most of my money on three powerhouse players: Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham, and Brown.

Brown was a beast. After what Julio Jones did to the Buccaneers defense in Week 3, the decision for Brown was a must. He scored two touchdowns and tallied 131 yards on seven receptions.

As for the Brees/Graham combo, I’m always a fan of tying your quarterback to his favorite target/receiver option. If the Saints didn’t wait to include Graham into the game plan on Sunday night against the Cowboys, who allow the MOST points to opposing TEs, maybe New Orleans, and myself, would’ve won. Instead, Graham was only used in garbage time. He still managed to produce 21.6 points.

My best value play was Frank Gore. At only $4,500 (same price as Asiata…and Davis), he scored 27.4 points against the Eagles.

Losing in a head-to-head DraftKings contest has the same taste as losing in a season-long fantasy football matchup. But, winning is sweeter, because you get paid instantly. I’m hoping to get that feeling back in Week 5.

Last week’s recap can be found here…

Peter’s Picks:

RB – Matt Forte, CHI (7,800)

Forte is one of the best PPR running backs in the NFL. I think there will be a lot of scoring in this game and I fully expect Forte to score a touchdown.

RB – Donald Brown, SD (5,400)

Brown had an amazing 36 touches last week and now gets to face the putrid Jaguars. He is a true three-down back given the lack of health in San Diego and I love him this week.

TE – Jimmy Graham, NO (7,500)

This pick is too easy. Graham is the best TE in the league and faces the team that is dead last at covering the TE this year. I love Graham to score not one, but two TDs on Sunday Night Football.

Adam’s Picks:

QB – Drew Brees, NO (9,300)

There are three games with an over/under of 50 total points or higher: Packers/Bears, Eagles/Niners, and Saints/Cowboys. From those three, I look at the quarterbacks on the favored teams: Aaron Rodgers, Colin Kaepernick, and Brees. Right away, I removed CK from this list. I had him on a fantasy football team last year and I don’t want to deal with him anymore. Rodgers is an interesting play. His price tag is low, but so are his stats. In two-out-of-three games this season, ARodg has thrown for fewer than 200 yards, which is very 2013-Kaepernick-esque. Brees is the more reliable option. I’ll save on money elsewhere.

RB – Donald Brown, SD (5,400)

Every week this season I have found value in the running back position at DraftKings: Terrance West (Week 1), Matt Asiata (Week 2), and Alfred Blue (Week 3). This week, I’m choosing one of the few healthy backs with the Chargers. With Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead out, Brown is the main guy in the backfield. As an added bonus, in standard leagues, the Jaguars allow the most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season.

TE – Jimmy Graham, NO (7,500)

This season, the Cowboys are allowing the most receptions per game (nine catches) and, at least, one TD per contest to opposing tight ends. Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker, Jared Cook, and Lance Kendricks all had good games against Dallas. Graham should be a slam dunk.
