Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Additions (Apr. 13)

Published Apr. 13, 2016 5:56 p.m. ET

If you're new to this feature, here are the ground rules.

No player in this space will be mentioned in back-to-back weeks, as we don't want to spam you with the same choices over and over again. We'll also limit the waiver wire suggestions to players owned in fewer than 40 percent of FOXSports.com leagues. Got it? Let's get to the Week 2 fantasy baseball waiver pickups:

Catcher

Miguel Montero, CHC: (25.7% owned) With Kyle Schwarber out for the year with an ACL injury, Montero should be in the lineup much more than anticipated. That's good news for needy owners, as he's posted five straight seasons with double-digit homers.

John Jaso, PIT: (25.2% owned) Jaso has always been a good hitter, but health has dogged him. Now batting at the top of the order for the Pirates, he has an .875 OPS to start the year. So long as he holds on to his catcher eligibility, he'll have value.

First Basemen

Ryan Zimmerman, WAS: (31.8% owned) Zim is yet another guy who has struggled to stay healthy, but has produced when he's been able to. He may not be able to stay on the field long enough to slug 26 homers again like he did in 2013, but he's showing early on that his big bat is still worth owning.

Joe Mauer, MIN: (15.7% owned) Perhaps Mauer is back to his old ways? He's getting on base at a .484 clip through the first week. Small sample size? Sure, but we've seen him put up monster averages in the past. You just have to be willing to forfeit some power.

Second Basemen

Scooter Gennett, MIL: (21.9% owned) He's a lifetime .290 hitter, and he's stroking the ball right now. Gennett won't offer much in the power and speed department, but he'll help you elsewhere.

Cesar Hernandez, PHI: (3.6% owned) He's being slept on because he plays for the Phillies, but Hernandez did hit .272 with 19 stolen bases last year. If you need some cheap speed and can pass on the power, Hernandez is available in a staggering amount of leagues.

Third Basemen

Justin Turner, LAD: (26.5% owned) He's struggling a bit right now, but Turner is a professional hitter. As is the case with a few other options listed above, Turner won't put up massive power numbers, but he'll get timely hits and get on base a ton. Holding down a spot in the middle of the Dodgers order is a good place for fantasy production.

Yunel Escobar, LAA: (10.2% owned) Escobar is batting leadoff for the Angels, which means Mike Trout is hitting right behind him. If he can keep getting on base at a high rate, he'll put up some runs.

Shortstops

Ketel Marte, SEA: (23.1% owned) I don't like quitting on a guy after a week of the season has gone by, and it appears many Marte owners have done just that. Keep an eye on his playing time status, but I like taking a flier on players who can get double-digit steals and potentially hit around .275.

J.J. Hardy, BAL: (6.1% owned) The 20+ homer days are over, but Hardy can still provide some power at a position where it's tough to find.

Outfield

Melky Cabrera, CWS: (14.7% owned) Don't sleep on the Melk Man! Double-digit homers and a high average are still very much in play for Cabrera, even if his best days are behind him.

Odubel Herrera, PHI: (6.4% owned) Two Phillies in one feature? It may be crazy, but I like Herrera's positional flexibility and potential speed/power combo. He could potentially net you 10 homers and 20 stolen bases at 24 years old, which is nothing to shy away from.

Starting Pitcher

Ian Kennedy, KC: (26.2% owned) He became a big strikeout pitcher over the last few years, and now he gets to pitch in front of baseball's best defense and actually get run support again? Kennedy might not be an ace, but he's way better than his ownership would lead you to believe.

Ubaldo Jimenez, BAL: (38.6% owned) We've fallen in this trap before, but maybe you can stand the big swings in production and happily accept the strikeouts and wins at this cheap price.

Relief Pitcher

Ryan Madson, OAK: (20.1% owned) He's already picked up two saves this year, and Sean Doolittle recently blew a save. Run out to go get him, don't walk.

J.J. Hoover, CIN: (11.2% owned) He has no saves yet, but the job still appears to be his.
