DraftKings MLB Picks For October 8

We are back to a lighter slate of two postseason games on DraftKings. All four pitchers are priced between $8,500 and $9,500. Who can help us the most since price isn’t really a factor? Let’s check out the past stats for some help.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

    Best Bets:

Tanner Roark ($8,700): Roark has by far the best stats of any pitcher going today. The Dodgers are only hitting .220 against Roark in 59 at bats with two homers and five RBI. The bad news is that he has only struck out eight. Roark isn’t a big strikeout guy anyway. If you want to chase strikeouts, you have to deal with some less than savory past stats.

Kyle Hendricks ($9,200): Can his stellar season carry over into the post season? Hendricks went 16-8 with a 2.13 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. Filthy numbers. However, the Giants are hitting an impressive .295 against him in 44 at bats with a homer, five runs, and nine strikeouts. He has mostly lived dangerously against the Giants, but Samardzija has not fared well against his former team.

    Honorable Mention:

Jeff Samardzija ($8,500): ‘Honorable mention’ is used loosely on a short slate. It still looks weird putting Shark’s awful stats up here, but you should know what you’re dealing with if you choose to use him. The Cubs are hitting .250 against Samardzija in 84 at bats. That’s not too bad. They have five homers. A little high, but you can live with it. However, he has given up 12 runs already. The 25 strikeouts give him the greatest strikeout potential of the day, but the Cubs have hit him hard when they catch up with it. Buyer beware!

Rich Hill ($9,500): Only six current Nationals have faced Rich Hill before. They are 12-21(.571) against him with only three strikeouts, two homers, and seven RBI. That is an average of a run every three at bats to a strikeout every seven. Now, Hill has had a career year this year when healthy, but those past numbers are pretty hard to ignore completely.

Adrian Gonzalez ($3,800) is 2-4 with a double and a solo homer against Tanner Roark. Yasmani Grandal ($3,700) only has one hit in five at bats, but it is a three run homer.

Brandon Belt ($3,700) has three hits in seven at bats against Kyle Hendricks with a triple, a homer, and two RBI. Buster Posey ($3,500), Kelby Tomlinson ($2,600), and Brandon Crawford ($4,000) have driven in the other runs against Hendricks, but haven’t hit him particularly hard.

Chris Coghlan ($3,100) is 4-11 with a double, two homers, and five RBI against Jeff Samardzija. Dexter Fowler ($4,200) is 7-24(.292) with two walks, a double, two triples, and a solo homer. Miguel Montero ($2,900) is worth a look if he starts. Montero is 3-11 with four walks, a triple, and two RBI against Samardzija. Anthony Rizzo‘s ($4,000) only hit in four at bats is a solo homer. Jason Heyward ($3,300) only has two hits in 13 at bats(.154), but he has a walk, a homer, and two RBI. Kris Bryant ($4,900) has three hits in six tries with a double and a RBI against Samardzija.

Jose Lobaton ($3,000) has two doubles and a single with a RBI in three at bats against Rich Hill. Bryce Harper ($3,800) has only faced Hill once. He came away with a RBI single. Jayson Werth ($3,300) is 1-3 with a double and two RBI. Ryan Zimmerman ($3,400) has six hits in nine at bats with a walk, a double, two homers, and three RBI against Hill.

Good luck out there, and check out our picks for the NFL!
