Cuban not in favor of NBA shortening games; Dirk says less than 82

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban loves every minute of the NBA, but the league wants to see if shortening the game will make it better.

The Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics will have four minutes cut from their preseason matchup on Sunday.

"After consulting with our Competition Committee, we agreed to allow the Nets and Celtics to play a 44-minute preseason game in order to give us some preliminary data that will help us to further analyze game-time lengths," NBA president of basketball operations Rod Thorn said in a statement on Tuesday.

Cuban hopes it's the only time they attempt to make changes to the length of the game.

"I can't get enough NBA," Cuban told ESPNDallas.com. "Best entertainment in the world. So more is better. More games are always a risk, but we play in facilities and employ a lot of people who benefit from those games."

But the face of his franchise wouldn't mind if there were fewer regular season games.

"I think you don't need 82 games to determine the best eight in each conference," Dirk Nowitzki said. "That could be done a lot quicker, but I always understand that it's about money, and every missed game means missed money for both parties, for the league, for the owners, for the players."
