Clippers guard Jamal Crawford named Sixth Man of Year

It took a bit, but Jamal Crawford has officially been named the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year on Thursday.

Crawford also won the award as a member of the Atlanta Hawks in 2009-10 and joins Kevin McHale, Ricky Pierce and Detlef Schrempf as two-time winners.

"Growing up, my goal wasn't to be a sixth man. I've always been a starter and one of the best players on my team. When I went to Atlanta, I realized the importance of it," Crawford said.

Crawford is the first player in NBA history to win the award for two separate teams and at 34, is the oldest player ever to receive the honor.

Crawford, who led all NBA reserves in scoring (18.6 ppg), came off the bench in 45 of 69 regular season games he appeared in, helping the Clippers finish with their best record in franchise history (57-25).

"He's done so much more. He was known, including by me, as only a guy that wanted to score and wouldn't do other things. This year, he's run the point guard position, he's been a passer at times when CP was out, he's been a defender. He's been a complete team guy," said Clippers head coach Doc Rivers.

Additionally, Crawford set the Clippers' single-season franchise record for three-pointers made with 161, surpassing the record he set a year ago. In doing so, he moved into 11th place on the NBA's all-time three-pointers made list with 1,697.

With their second-round series with the Thunder tied at 1, the Clippers return home to Staples Center for Games 3 and 4 on Friday and Sunday.
