Bucks deal Plumlee to Hornets for Hibbert, Hawes

Looking to shake things up with the team in a funk and get a little bulkier inside, the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday traded Miles Plumlee to the Charlotte Hornets for a pair of 7-footers, Roy Hibbert and Spencer Hawes.

To make room for both players on the roster, the Bucks also requested waivers for veteran Steve Novak.

"Spencer and Roy are two proven NBA centers who give us additional depth and versatility in the front court," Bucks GM John Hammond said in a statement.

Plumlee, who signed a four-year contract in the offseason worth $50 million, was used sparingly this season.

He played in 32 games with 12 starts, averaging 9.7 minutes, 2.6 points and 1.7 rebounds. Acquired from Phoenix in the 2014-15 season, Plumlee averaged 4.1 points and 3.0 rebounds in 112 games with Milwaukee.

Hibbert, a first-round pick in 2008, offers Milwaukee the rim-protector it has lacked for years.

The 7-foot-2, 270-pound center has averaged 10.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in his seven seasons with Indiana, the Los Angeles Lakers and Charlotte.

In 42 games this season with the Hornets Hibbert was averaging 16.0 minutes, 3.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks. He has never averaged less than 1.0 blocks per season in his career.

The 7-1 Hawes is in his second year with the Hornets, averaging 17.9 minutes, 7.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 35 games.

Hibbert is in the final year of his contract, which pays him $5 million this season.

Hawes is making $5,782,450 this season but also has a $566,309 trade kicker, according to Spotrac. Hawes also has a $6,021,175 million player option for 2017-18.

A Marquette alum and Milwaukee native, Novak re-signed with the Bucks in the offseason, but appeared in just eight games and played just 22 minutes, spending most of his time inactive.
