Joe Prunty will finish the 2017-18 season as head coach, the Milwaukee Bucks officially announced Friday afternoon.

Prunty took over for Jason Kidd before Monday's 109-105 win over the Phoenix Suns, just hours after Kidd was relieved of his coaching duties. Prunty will have a chance to become the Bucks' full-time head coach next season when the search begins this summer.

Vin Baker, who played for the Bucks from 1993-97 and served as an analyst on FOX Sports Wisconsin this season, will join Prunty on the staff as an assistant coach.

Prunty served as an assistant coach under Kidd for four seasons in Milwaukee. He's also made stops in Cleveland (2010-13), Portland (2008-10), Dallas (2005-08) and San Antonio (1996-2005), and is the head coach of  Great Britain’s men’s national team.

"We believe that Joe is the right person to lead our team and help us achieve our goals," said general manager Jon Horst in a press release. "He has the knowledge and experience, along with the respect of our players and staff, to get the job done."

Prunty will try for his second win as head coach Friday night when Milwaukee hosts the Brooklyn Nets at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
