Browns waive wide receiver Terrelle Pryor

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Terrelle Pryor didn't make it to his first game with the Browns.

The former quarterback, who made Cleveland's 53-man roster after training camp as a wide receiver, was waived Thursday -- three days before the Browns open the season against the New York Jets.

Pryor practiced on Thursday and was in the locker room when it was opened to the media. The Browns confirmed the move and said they have claimed running back Robert Turbin, who reaching an injury settlement on Wednesday with Seattle.

Pryor, who started 10 games at quarterback for Oakland, made it through the final cuts despite not catching a pass during the exhibition season. The former Ohio State star was slowed by a hamstring injury throughout training camp and only appeared in one preseason game.

"Had great time at Cleveland," Pryor said on Twitter. "Happy to get opportunity at Cleveland and good luck this weekend vs jets!"

Pryor's potential intrigued the Browns, but the team decided to release him, ending their experiment with him and leaving his career at a crossroads. Pryor transitioned to wide receiver after being waived by Kansas City and Cincinnati earlier this year.
