Montreal Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber introduced the Eastern Conference to his slap shot, showing no mercy to the stick of Brayden Schenn.

Ask any NHL player who has played against Shea Weber who has the hardest shot in the league and they will promptly tell you it’s Weber. After scaring Western Conference players out of their wits for years, the Western Conference knows this.

You’ll have to forgive some Eastern Conference players for not being aware of just how deadly a Shea Weber slap shot is. Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn found out the hard way after a slap shot from the Canadiens defenseman found its way to the back of the net after destroying his stick.

Lord have mercy on anyone unfortunate enough to be in the way of one of Weber’s slap shots. His slap shot has been clocked at over 100 miles per hour. Over the years, his slap shot has been one of the deadliest power play weapons in the NHL. Of his 166 goals entering Monday’s game against the Flyers, 80 of them have been on the power play.

So far, the Weber for P.K. Subban trade has turned out well for the Canadiens. While it has been just a few games, the Canadiens currently find themselves in first place. Granted, this is largely due to their goaltenders Al Montoya and Carey Price, but Weber has played an important role as well.

Weber’s goal is the second of the season. The former Nashville Predators defenseman has played in 769 career NHL games. In those 769 games, he has 168 goals and 281 assists for 449 points. His next point will be the 450th of his career. Despite never win a Norris Trophy, Weber is regarded as one of the best defensemen in the league. His slap shot plays a huge role in that.
