NHL takes away Blackhawks rookie Trevor van Riemsdyk's first goal

The NHL has changed Trevor van Riemsdyk's first career goal into the first assist for the rookie defenseman with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Van Riemsdyk was credited with a goal on a big slap shot in the first period of Chicago's 5-2 victory over San Jose on Sunday night. But the NHL changed the scoring on the play on Monday, ruling forward Kris Versteeg got a piece of the shot for career goal No. 106.

The scoring change also eliminated a historic first period for the Blackhawks. When the goal was credited to van Reimsdyk, it was the first time three defensemen scored in a single period for Chicago since the third period of an 8-1 victory over Edmonton on Nov. 27, 1992.
