New York Islanders Hope to Make it Three in a Row

Who’d of thought that the New York Islanders might be looking at making a three-game winning streak so soon after collapsing to the bottom of the standings? Standing in their way is the Washington Capitals.
What are the odds the New York Islanders make it three wins in a row against the Washington Capitals tonight? I know, not great. But man does it feel good to talk about victories.
Getting two wins and four points up on the board really help the Isles erase the gap that was starting to form between them and the rest of the teams in the Metropolitan Division.
Before tonight’s game, the Islanders are two points back of Carolina in 7th and five points out of a wild-card spot. Another two points tonight and the Isles could see them jump up to 8th in the division and three points out of a wild-card.
That’s assuming that Carolina loses to Boston and Buffalo loses to the Rangers tonight. And, more importantly, that the Islanders actually win against the Capitals.
If you were to just look at the money line the odds are in the Isles favor for the first two with Carolina a +130 vs. Boston and Buffalo a +120 vs. the Rangers. But the Isles are a +200 to win against the Capitals. Not great. That’s a 33% likelihood of the Isles winning.
But let’s be honest, with a lineup that includes Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Marcus Johansson, and Brayden Holtby they’re going to be favorites.
But maybe, just maybe, the isles can carry this momentum to another win.
