Jonathan Bernier still out due to mystery ailment, Toronto calls in back-up

Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier is still day-to-day with an undisclosed ailment, so the team has recalled goalie Antoine Bibeau from the Toronto Marlies, according to a report from the Toronto Sun.

Bernier was not well enough to play Monday night against the Stars, but he was okay enough to sit on the bench and track face-offs. Back-up James Reimer made 43 saves in Toronto's 4-1 win over the Stars Monday, and Babcock told reporters he planned to reward Reimer by starting him Wednesday night against the Jets.

It appears the call-up for Bibeau means Bibeau will play the role of Reimer's back-up Wednesday. The Leafs will play a back-to-back Friday and Saturday, as they host the Red Wings Friday night before traveling to DC to play the Capitals Saturday. If Bibeau is still around by the weekend, it seems there is a possibility he could make a start.

The 21-year-old Bibeau has never played in an NHL game. He was 15-10-5 in net last season for the AHL Marlies with a .913 save percentage.
